Gregory Bennett Walmsley

Gregory Bennett Walmsley’s career as a cellist spans over three decades of international performance and recording. A highlight of his early career includes recording at Abbey Road Studios with Howard Shore for The Lord of the Rings soundtrack.

Gregory spent twenty years as a member of the London Philharmonic Orchestra, performing across five continents and collaborating with some of the most distinguished conductors of our time, including Antal Dorati, Sir Georg Solti, Sir Colin Davis, Sir Simon Rattle, Kurt Masur, and Bernard Haitink.

He began his musical journey as a junior student at the Royal Academy of Music in London, later studying under Derek Simpson and Lynn Harrell, and earning a scholarship to study with Bernard Greenhouse at Rutgers University in the United States.

Today based in Berlin, Gregory continues to perform internationally, including recent and upcoming appearances at chamber music festivals in Germany and the Netherlands, as well as a solo project featuring Bach’s Cello Suites at the London Eye. He plays an Italian cello from Trieste and also serves as an Ambassador for the Arts & Culture Network.
